Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

A description of the experience

from The 17th Frederic W H Myers memorial lecture 1968 by Sir Cyril Burt

From the case histories I have been able to collect it would seem that many [mediums and psychics] had been children of high intelligence brought up in a relatively dull and unappreciative family.

They are usually girls, partly I imagine because neither parents nor educationists take the highly intelligent girl so seriously as they do the highly intelligent boy and partly because the feminine mind is more liable to dissociation.  Their IQs are usually well abve that of their social group.  In addition they often exhibit some special talent - verbal, musical, imaginative.

Nearly always they are endowed with the remarkable subconscious memory characteristic of gifted individuals
