Background

A description of the experience

Swami Swatmaram – Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Hatha is considered a name composed of two syllables. Ha signifies the moon and tha signifies the sun. These correspond to the breath that flows through the right and left nasal passageways. The control of breathing with the aim of restricting fluctuatlon in the thinking principle is called Hatha Yoga.

It would not be wise to consider Hatha Yoga simply a dangerous form of gymnastics because it has been found that a moderate practice of its exercises is effective in the production of good health and longevity.

Hatha Yoga brings with it the power of preventing both physical and mental illnesses. Its regular practice acts on the heart, the lungs, and the circulatory system. It even bestows the power of delaying death for an indefinite period of time. However, this ability is realer employed by the true Yogi who understands the consequences of opposing natural law.
