The Jacques Romano Story – Dr Berthold Eric Schwartz
DERVISHES IN THE SUDAN
The Dervishes become numb and insensitive to pain in parts of their body by vigorously twirling their bodies in their ecstatic religious dances. When they are dizzy and completely intoxicated in their frenzy, they can drive an iron spike into their skulls so firmly that it takes a hammer to knock it out. You can see the spike wedged in the bone; yet there is no bleeding.”
