On Thurday, we flew to Aklavik, running into some bad weather toward the end of the flight, but managing, by going around some small storms, to get in safely. The men immediately unloaded the engine, and started to assemble it. I had brought in a new propeller with the new engine, and there was some discussion among the engineers as to its suitability. It was not exactly the same pitch or length as the other propeller, and it would require careful adjustments to synchronize the motors in flight. I had considerable discussion with the engineers in respect to this.
Sherman, who has no technical knowledge in regard to planes and propellers, would hardly have guessed about the pitch of the new propeller, but in his report for the night of the 17th he has recorded:
"Flight back to Aklavik made successfully without incident - new propeller to go with new motor-seem to see it - something about pitch of new propeller . . seems as though pitch of both propellers must be the same . . . I have no technical knowledge and do not know what this means."
