Unmanageability of the subject or patient was encountered at least once by most of the respondents [psychiatrists]. This developed when the individual completely lost his grasp of the situation and acted upon some paranoid notion. If he were unprotected, he might run off or accidentally hurt himself. Those in attendance were almost never assaulted. When a 'sitter' was not present, the unmanageable subject might get involved in a predicament which was at least embarrassing or at most dangerous.
