Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

A description of the experience

The lonesome for they know not what
The eastern exiles be
Who stayed beyond the amber line
Some madder Holiday

And ever since, the purple moat
They strive to climb, in vain
As birds that tumble from the clouds
Do fumble at the strain

The Blessed Ether, taught them
Some transatlantic morn
When heaven was too common to miss
Too sure to dote upon

My faith is larger than the hills
So when the hills decay
My faith must take the purple wheel
To show the sun the way

……………

How dare I, therefore, stint a faith
On which so vast depends
Lest firmament should fail for me
The rivet in the bands

The source of the experience
