A description of the experience
Christopher Read – Expanded Universes
From Skull Garden
For a brief while, you must stand
In this dour patch of land
And draw a deep breath
Fragrance of life, death
And something more; the sense
Of a dark Intelligence
Determined to conjure the whole
From a pitiless rigmarole
Of making and unmaking.
To feel, within you, waking
The same idea that powers
The occasional, upstart flowers,
Or drives that twisted tree
Through its slow dance, is easy.
But what ancient seed was sown
To yield this crop of stone?
