THE COTTAGE
The limpid river runs at ease
Along the level pasture-land ;
A wood there is on either hand
Of little twisting trees.
For such a while has water run
Across the roots that, lying there
Like scattered harp-strings, bright
and bare
They glitter back the sun.
And now along the water, gray
Where the soft willow-shadows lie,
A little boat is drifting by,-
But whither, who shall say?
Only, half a mile away,
Stands a sunlit cottage, deep
Among the woodlands half-asleep.
